What Unconscious Messages Are You Sending?
I’m beginning to think that children were put on this planet to teach US instead of us teaching them!
This is a picture of my daughter folding a towel with her teeth. Read my article to find out what I learned about myself.
The other day, my mom said to me, “Watch how your daughter folds towels.” I was a little intrigued with what I was about to witness. I saw her grab a face towel, and hold the two ends of the towel with her fingers. She then used her teeth to hold the middle of the towel as she gently put together the top ends of the towel together and transferred the ends into one hand. With her other hand, she grabbed the part that was in her teeth.
When I saw her do this my jaw dropped. I was disturbed that she used her teeth to fold. And I was shocked too because the sight was all too familiar, that is exactly how I fold towels! However, I wasn’t even conscious of it. I’m so unconscious when I fold towels that I didn’t even realize I use my teeth to do it.
Which got me thinking… What else do I do that I am not aware of? There are things that we do in our lives that are completely unconscious. Perhaps it’s the way we stand, the way we scratch our neck when we’re irritated, the thoughts we think throughout the day.
When you shake someone’s hand is your grip strong or soft? When you meet a potential client do you stand tall and straight or are your shoulders slouched? Do you have thoughts of success or failure? Are you focused on the downturn of the economy or are you focused on the opportunity of this new economy? When you speak are you more of a pessimist or an optimist?
Our unconscious thoughts and habits affect our results. Through our posture, our words and our actions we are constantly sending out messages about ourselves, our confidence level, our work ethic and our belief system. And those messages are picked up by others and they choose whether or not they want to talk to us, befriend us or do business with us.
When you become aware of these messages you can then start to shift them and create different results. Here’s are just a few simple things you can do to start that process:
1. Practice being present in the moment and not in your head.
2. Be more aware of what you are doing, saying and thinking as much as possible.
3. Be conscious of your thoughts of doubt and limitation and shift them by saying an affirmation.
