Many times a bad day begins within the first few minutes you wake up. For example your alarm fails to go off, you stub your toe while getting out of bed, or you have an incident with your spouse or your kids. These events can dampen anyone’s day. But do you notice how when it starts this way the whole day continues this way? It’s because when bad things happen first thing in the morning it puts you in a “bad mood” and you continue to attract more negative stuff throughout the day.
Last week, was one of those days for me. It was the day before my birthday and I woke up with a sore throat and I never get sick. I had my mastermind meeting at 10:00am and I had to pick up my rental car at 7:30am. But on this particular morning, Chuck lost his keys and was late for work. Two hours later, the keys were nowhere to be found and both Chuck and I needed to be somewhere! I was desperate, I needed to get to the car rental place but had no idea how to get there. Luckily, a friend came to our rescue, he picked us up and dropped us off so we could rent a car to get to where we needed to go.
When I got there at 9:00am they had no more compact cars. However, the guy at the counter was happy to offer me a free upgrade. Not knowing anything about cars, I didn’t think much of it when he gave me a Ford F-150. When they showed me my rental car my knees went numb, my stomach dropped and I was frozen with fear. I wanted to cry. “I can’t drive this thing”, I thought to myself.
The car they gave me was a pickup truck! Now for those of you that don’t know me, I barely like to drive and I don’t do too well driving big cars. But this was all they had, if I was going to make it to the mastermind meeting, I had no choice but to quickly learn how to drive it.

My bad day just got worse. But I knew that if I didn’t want there to be any other disasters I had to change my thinking immediately. I took a deep breath, and started visualizing a better day, I willed the day to get better. And I found something positive to take away from this frightening situation.
My mentor Bob Proctor says “Always do things that scare you. Everyday do something out of your comfort zone.” In the book Think and Grow Rich in the Self Confidence Formula it says “I will devote ten minutes daily to demanding of myself the development of SELF-CONFIDENCE.” For me, driving a truck was definitely stretching myself and getting out of my comfort zone. And so I took the challenge and I drove it. It didn’t matter that I was driving 20 miles per hour and that people were honking at me and driving around me. The point is that I did it and I overcame a huge fear. The more you overcome your fear the easier it will be to overcome it the next time. And after that, my day did get better because I turned it around.
Your Assignment
1. If you’re having a bad day, you must first take a step back, take a deep breath and find a way to shift your thinking and your energy. Find the good in all the bad things that happened to you, find a way to laugh about it. For example, laugh at yourself for stubbing your foot, it’s not like your bed moved, it’s always been in the same place. Find a way to be grateful for the day, for being forced to do something you didn’t want to do to help you grow as a person.
2. Start to immediately shift your thoughts and your feelings. When you change your vibration the negative spiral that you got into will suddenly stop.
3. Find the good in the bad. What good thing or learning lesson can you take from your “bad” day. How can you turn it around?
